The only solution is to keep doing it again and each time the soreness won’t be as bad. Also drink lots of water and eat healthy stuff. Eventually you get to a point where you only get sore if you really push yourself beyond your limits or you rest a certain muscle group for longer than usual.

Also if you’re going for a run on the ground and/or a treadmill that puts the most pounding into your legs. Try an elliptical or stationary bike to build up your tolerance first.

(I do actually take the joint supplements above, but that’s because about a year or so ago, at the ripe old age of 34, with the cold-ass Wisconsin winters and my very frequent lifting, a few too many of my joints were getting crunchy and crackly.)

I might need to check out those joint supplements. I’m too young to feel this old. But, a lifetime of high impact sports and injuries will do that. I’ve never seen fish free before though.

The thing that was really bugging me last winter was my right forearm was crackling and popping like crazy where it met the elbow. I started taking a different glucosamine supplement (I wasn’t yet vegan at the time) and it didn’t exactly calm it down while it was still winter. Generally things get better when the weather warms up and the absolute humidity becomes higher. I switched to this version when I went vegan last fall. This winter, I still sorta kinda get that forearm pop but it’s less frequent and not nearly as severe. Whether it’s directly from the supplement or from another year of building muscle, I dunno.

Oh, and I take it post workout. My supplements are as follows...

Pre-workout
1.5 g creatine hcl
5 g beta alanine

Post-workout
5 g glutamine
1.5 g glucosamine + 1 g MSM (3 of the pills above)
1 g BCAA 2:1:1 (2 of these guys )
1 cheap multivitamin

On rest days I take all that stuff together, minus the creatine, since hcl doesn’t need to be pre-loaded and skipping it helps avoid water retention.

How does your preworkout mix make you feel? I take C4 whenever I’m feeling really tired but I’m tired of how expensive most preworkouts are.

I usually take whey after all workouts in a shake with 5g of creatine mixed in. Besides that just eat healthy.

I love the ON BCAA’s. I don’t always do pre-workout, but sometimes I’ll take the amino energy powder before a track workout or if I’m otherwise tired before the gym. One thing to look out for is the Gelatin in the caps. I don’t avoid Gelatin but if there are two options, I’ll get the one without. I think they have to list if it’s made from pigs but I’m not sure about other animal sources.

Winter or bad weather is hard on my joints. My ankle, knees, wrists, and my messed up toe joint ache more than normal. Or, if it’s nice but I have a high mileage week or several heavy (to me) weight workouts.

I stopped taking any fancy blends of random ingredients that do who knows what like C4 because I don’t want to pay extra for a bunch of random shit that I dunno what it does, and I don’t want a pile of caffeine when I go to the gym at night. The bulk single ingredient stuff is way cheaper and I’m only taking the specific ingredients I want because I know they’re supposed to do a particular thing.

Creatine and beta alanine are the two most common pre-workout ingredients outside of caffeine. Many of them also have stuff like arginine and/or citrulline to make your veins bug out.

Ya know, I totally forgot about the gelatin issue. I’ll have to double check on that.

I usually give it a pass unless it explicitly states an animal source. My philosophy is that it’s a byproduct of producing meat and we aren’t slaughtering animals for gelatin. At least the entire animal is being used. It also helps justify leather too, I guess.

Oh, I forgot to mention stretching before. Stretch. A lot. Before and after workouts. On rest days when you’re sore. Stretching is good.
